Here's some last minute news if you're in the Portland area with nothing to do on New Year's Eve.
Isaac Brock will be performing songs with Talkdemonic tomorrow night, at their New Year's Eve bash at the Mission Theater in Portland, OR. Joining them also will be Menomena. The event is being unofficially dubbed Brockdemonena. Opening the show will be Deelay Ceelay and Brainstorm.

So, this obviously isn't a Shins fan site, but with Joe Plummer currently drumming for them this becomes slightly relevant.
The Shins announced this morning that they would be releasing a new album in March 2012, entitled Port Of Morrow, on Aural Apothecary/Columbia Records. While their press release states that James Mercer has performed the majority of the instrumentation, it is expected that Joe has performed drums on the album.
The press release also states that they will be announcing tour dates soon and that the tour will feature Joe on drums. This will probably tie up Joe for any potential touring with Modest Mouse.

Modest Mouse will be performing at the opening night of Macworld at a concert entitled Macworld | iWorld Opening Night BLAST. The show will be taking place at The Warfield in San Francisco on January 25, 2012. Tickets are available now it seems through some kind of registration process, for what I believe is $35 (but this may be on top of the ticket price for the Macworld expo being held at Moscone Center). Also it sounds like there is a special deal on at the moment, and the price will be going up tomorrow.
The Macworld | iWorld is being held January 26 - 28, 2012 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and is the ultimate fan event for those who use, create, and love Apple products.
