Modest Mouse added as Velorama 2018 headliner

Modest Mouse has been added as the new Friday night headliner for Denver, CO's Velorama festival. The band is replacing Glass Animals, who have had to cancel all their upcoming tour dates due to injury.

The August 17th lineup includes The Kills, Hop Along, and Slow Caves. Modest Mouse alumni Joe Plummer's band, Cold War Kids, will also be performing on the Saturday.

Tickets are already on sale.

Voodoo Music + Arts Experience

Modest Mouse will be returning to this year's Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans this year. The festival takes place over the Halloween weekend of October 26 to 28. A detailed schedule has not yet been released, so it is unknown which day Modest Mouse will actually be playing at present.

The band also announced more tour dates last month (I've been away), for the months of September and October. Judging by the amount of new cities and venues I had to enter, they are going to be touring in a lot of places they have not been before. Those tickets are on sale now.

Modest Mouse headlining Sasquatch! Music Festival

Modest Mouse will be headlining this year's Sasquatch! Music Festival, taking place from May 25-27, over the Memorial Day weekend. The other headliners are Bon Iver and The National.

This will be Modest Mouse's sixth time at Sasquatch!, putting them tie with Ben Gibbard, and only behind Neko Case (who will also be performing at the 2018 festival), as the artists that have played the festival the most.

Tickets go on sale on February the 10th.

Modest Mouse announce first show of 2018

Modest Mouse have announced their first show of 2018, a headlining slot at Louisville, KY's Forecastle Festival. The other headliners include Chris Stapleton and Arcade Fire.

The festival is taking place over the weekend of July 13, with tickets going on sale this Friday (January 19).

As has been the pattern with past years, Modest Mouse usually plan small tours in the weeks leading up to festival dates, stay tuned to see if that trend continues.

Modest Mouse last performed at the Forecastle Festival in 2015.

Modest Mouse heading to Australia in the new year

Usually I try to avoid news posts for single tour dates, but with news having been really slow as of late, and the tour finally ending recently, I think the first date of 2016 needs an announcement.

Modest Mouse has been added to the lineup of the Byron Bay Bluesfest taking place at the Tyagarah Tea Farm in New South Wales, AU. Their performance is scheduled for Sunday, March 27th.

Normally I doubt the band would travel that distance and not play other shows, so I would expect additional Australian dates to be added at some point. This will be Modest Mouse's first show in Australia since 2011.

SiriusXMU debuting another new song tomorrow and other news

Update, 2/12 3:47 PM PST: SiriusXMU have informed us that the new song will now be aired on Monday, around noon.

Sam G, and others, have informed us that SiriusXMU (channel 35) has been announcing today that they will be premiering a new Modest Mouse song tomorrow. No time has been mentioned. It's presumed that this will be "The Ground Walks, With Time in a Box", a track which earlier this week had it's run time displayed on iTunes to be 6:10. This may also indicate that the track may be available for purchase or to those that pre-ordered the album next week Tuesday.

Next, the band has also been added to the Open'er Festival in Poland. Modest Mouse were due to perform at the festival in 2013, before that entire European tour was scrapped, so this will now be the band's first performance in that country. The Open'er Festival show is to take place on July 1st. This is good news for the Europeans, as it is the second European festival to announce that Modest Mouse will be performing over there in June/July. However the European dates are also the only ones so far not confirmed on

Lastly: Hastings, a media retailer in the US, has posted track times on their listing for "Strangers to Ourselves". I won't post them all again, you can just see them here, but this would bring the album running time to somewhere in the 57 minute and 10 second area.

A few new tour dates and one new festival

Modest Mouse's website has been updated with a few new dates between the Gasparilla Music Festival and their album release date / Jimmy Fallon performance on March 17.

Dates for Athens, GA, Chattanooga, TN, Charleston, SC, and Raleigh, NC are now being listed on their website. It looks like there will be a fanclub presale for tickets starting tomorrow (February 12).

Not listed there, but announced via press release, is that the band will be headlining the WayHome Music and Arts Festival sometime over July 24 to 26.

There's also a new rumoured date on April 17 in Ithaca, NY, but that has yet to be confirmed. Same goes for the Firefly Festival in Dover, DE, in June. June is looking like a strange month as there's already a single European date in Denmark there...

Track 14 to be made available February 3rd?

In what may be a similar pattern to what happened with Coyotes, it has been pointed out that multiple sites selling the digital copy of Strangers to Ourselves are now listing the track time for Track 14 as 4:24 along with a release date of February 3rd.

Based on the track time this could be Sugar Boats, Pistol, or a track we have yet to hear.

The new album was also discussed briefly on NPR's All Songs Considered this past week, with host Robin Hilton mentioning that he's heard the entire album, called it "classic Modest Mouse", and that you wouldn't believe 8 years has past. Listen to the discussion at around the 6 min mark here.

Also, if you don't follow us on Facebook or Twitter, and live in the area of Louisville, KY, the band has been added to Forecastle Festival. That puts a good 4.5 months between the only know tour dates at the moment. The band usually likes to do some warm up dates around festivals, so there's lots of space here for dates, should the band be doing the festival circuit this summer. The band is also listed as an act on a leaked lineup for Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE (June 18 - 21), but that has yet to be confirmed.

Thanks to everyone that sent all this info in.

Lastly, I think this short video clip speaks for itself:

First festival date of 2015 / Next single?

It's been almost a month since Modest Mouse announced their first album, Strangers to Ourselves, in almost eight years and released the radio single Lampshades on Fire, before returning to silence on the news front.

Now we finally have news on their first performance for 2015. The band will be headlining the Gasparilla Music Festival on March 7th in Tampa, FL. Just a few days after the release of the album. Tickets for the festival are already on sale. This will also be the band's first performance in Tampa in 11 years.

Hopefully this is just the first of tour dates to be announced. Modest Mouse usually likes to do a few warm up dates before a festival.

It's also been pointed out by @horriblezone, that on's page for the digital album, track 7 has been updated to include the length of 3:30 (this is also showing on iTunes), and an availability date of January 20th. This could potentially be the next single and its release date. It is a Tuesday, the optimal time to release things in the music world. Rumour for now, but we'll be keeping an eye on it.

It has been announced that both nights of this weekend's KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas will be live streamed.

Modest Mouse will be performing at 6:50pm Pacific Time. It looks like their set will only be about 30 mins long.

Should you not be able to catch it, the organizers are saying that the webcast will be available for 24 hours after broadcast.

This may be Modest Mouse's last performance for the year, although every time we say that they announce more dates.

Modest Mouse will be making a return to Mexico this September, having just been added to the lineup of the Hellow Festival in Monterrey.

An alternative poster is showing them as opening for Queens Of The Stone Age on Friday, September 19. This detail of the lineup is not yet mentioned on the festival website, so be careful using this information to buy single tickets.

First shows of 2014

Well it's been a few quiet months...

Modest Mouse announced their first shows of 2014 this morning, both coming up this May.

The first, they will be headlining the Shaky Knees Music Fest in Atlanta, GA, along with The National, and an as of yet unknown third group. Then they will be performing at the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, AL.

UPDATE: Free show for Californians

Spin Magazine is reporting that Modest Mouse will be performing a free show next week as part of the annual Vans US Open Of Surfing.

The band will be playing on July 26 in Huntington Beach, CA, with support from Matt Costa.

We're not 100% sure where the actual concert will be taking place as the event's website has yet to announce the acts, or if there will be some kind of ticketing system. It just lists "Concert Stage", which we presume will be on the beach. We'll post updates as we hear them, but as the show is free, if you're in the area you might want to keep a close eye on it, if it's first come first served.

UPDATE: The show will be live streamed from Thanks to Jason Planer for the update.

So... new tour dates?

Having just cancelled their European tour last week to work on their new album, Modest Mouse's website has been update to include two new dates for what would have been the month after that tour ended.

The band will be heading to Malaysia for the first time, to perform at the Good Vibes Festival in Kuala Lumpur on August 17, before heading back State side where a new date has been added before what was their only remaining tour date left in Reno on August 24. The Reno date also provided a definite date for the First City Festival. The band now seems locked to be performing on the second night of that one, on August 25.

The timing of these dates could be positive, with the band perhaps finishing up recording before August and then hitting the road while the album is being mastered, for an early 2014 release.

Tickets for the Reno, NV date go on sale tomorrow.

European tour officially cancelled

It's official: Modest Mouse has cancelled their upcoming European tour consisting of 29 dates. The official word from the band is that they are using this time to complete their new album, tentatively due out next year.

After much thought, we have decided to cancel our EU/UK tour to continue work on our forthcoming album. We do appreciate our fans and promise that we will make it up to you next year.

Refunds will be available at the point of purchase.

We look forward to sharing our new music with the world next year.

As of now, the only tour date still on is the First City Festival in Monterey, CA, on August 24, where they will be headlining with Passion Pit.

A similar situation took place back in 2006, where the band cancelled a much shorter tour to complete work on We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, which ended up coming out 9 months later.

In other news, yesterday's static image on the band's website has returned to the original homepage. Although the site traffic is understandably taking quite a beating at the moment.

Audible live version of Be Brave from Coachella

Modest Mouse performed the second stop of their short North American tour at the Coachella festival.

Marking it's second appearance in concert, was new track Be Brave and thanks to an earlier campaign to get the festival organizers to stream the festival, a higher quality version of the track has been recorded by Twitter user mylasdiralen. Catch the recording over on their website.

UPDATE: Modest Mouse's Coachella set to be streamed

While it originally looked like Modest Mouse set was not going to be included in the list of acts Coachella would be streaming tonight, an 11th hour campaign organized by board member jplan74 seems to have changed the festival organizers minds.

Modest Mouse's set tonight will be streamed, just not live. The band's set will be shown on Channel 2 of the Coachella YouTube stream at 9pm Pacific Time tonight.

New material from Oakland

Modest Mouse performed their first show for 2013 in Oakland, California two nights ago. In case you missed the set list when we posted it that night, it was reported that two new songs were performed.

The titles for these two tracks have now been confirmed as Be Brave and Shit In Your Cut. Rough video of both songs has also made it's way onto YouTube and posted below. Interestingly, no other "new" material from the past two years was performed.

Eric Judy has still not surfaced, and despite not having any conflicting dates with The Shins, Joe Plummer also did not perform. Both positions, to our knowledge are still being filled in by Russell Higbee (formally of Man Man) and Modest Mouse drum tech Davey Brozowsky. Lisa Molinaro from Talkdemonic also played violin on some songs, as she has in the past year.

Tonight the band plays the main stage at Coachella. And while it was originally reported that the set might be streamed, it seems like Modest Mouse's set is one of the few that will not be. Should that change, I'm sure it will be updated here.

Shit In Your Cut

Thanks to TinyLaugh and McWeird007 for the set list updates and the names of the new songs.

European gaps filled in

Hologram Judy, has your software been updated?

We've been sitting on these dates for a while due to a lack of time to do updates, so hopefully you've all been paying attention. It's mostly the US dates that are sold out at this point.

Let's start with the band hitting the road in two days with their predominantly Californian dates leading up to and around the Coachella festival this coming weekend. It will be the band's first performance since July last year, and hopefully some insight into what they've been working on in the past year. Hopefully we'll see the return of Eric Judy, and with none of The Shins' tour dates conflicting with Modest Mouse's, maybe Joe Plummer will be back as well.

Secondly, in the past two weeks a lot of the gaps in the European tour have been filled in. Check the tour page for all the details. Club and festival dates have been added in Norway, Luxembourg, France, Germany (more) and the UK (more), bringing the total amount of performances so far to 36. Tickets appear to be on sale still for all of these and the only European show so far listed as sold out is Brighton.

Lastly, three of the shows in the UK have had their venues upgraded to larger venues, that's in Bristol, London and Leeds. Your original ticket is valid, just make sure you take note of the venue changes.

UPDATE: Modest Mouse added to Dutch/Spanish Festivals

Right on the heels of the Coachella announcement last week, Modest Mouse has been added to the Best Kept Secret Festival happening in Hilvarenbeek in the Netherlands this coming June 23.

Tickets seem to have already been on sale for a bit, but Modest Mouse was only announced this morning, along with a few other bands. They're going to be playing on the Sunday, the last night of the festival, with headliners Portishead and Sigur Rós.

Hopefully this is an indication that the band is gearing up to perform the Spring festival circuit over the months between these two festivals.

UPDATE: No sooner than we'd posted this information, it was brought to our attention that Modest Mouse's own website has silently also listed a June 28 date for the Azkena Rock Festival in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, a few days after the Dutch festival.

Early bird tickets are on sale until tomorrow, after that it seems you'll need to look on the Spanish division of Ticketmaster.

Modest Mouse performing at Coachella 2013

The Coachella lineup was announced last night, and Modest Mouse is set to perform on the Friday for both weekends of the festival. That's April 12 and 19. They will be performing alongside Blur, The Stone Roses, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. This marks the band's first time ever performing at this festival.

Another interesting side note, is that Johnny Marr will also be performing on the same days, which could see him join the band on stage again. However they were in the same position in England a few years ago, where Marr was performing at the same festival with The Cribs and nothing came of it.

Either way, it's good to have some live dates on the horizon, maybe leading up to a more structured tour, or perhaps the hint that Modest Mouse will be doing the festival circuit this Spring/Summer. The band has not performed together since July last year.

Tickets go on sale this Tuesday. Watch the trailer for the festival below.

UPDATE: It's actually been pointed out that they made their debut at Coachella in 1999. Embarrassing for us! Thanks Kurt for pointing this out.

Modest Mouse performing at Florida festival?

Mouse Mouse may be performing at the UR1 Music Festival in December.

While the festival has not yet announced their lineup, Logan H has passed on an article to us, that leaks the supposed lineup.

If the lineup turns out to be true, the band will be down in Miami, FL on December 8 and 9. As with all festivals, at this point, we don't know which day they'll be performing on, or if there's the chance they'll be performing on both.

We'll continue to keep on eye on it, but seeing as how the UR1 Music Festival posted on their Facebook page yesterday, claiming the Kanye West part of the lineup is true, there's a good chance the lineup could turn out to be true. The festival's website doesn't make any mention of when they actually plan to announce the lineup.

Video of new material from the Frost Revival festival

Video has surfaced from this past Saturday's performance at the Frost Revival festival in Palo Alto, CA of two new Modest Mouse songs.

The first is titled "Ansel", and isn't as new, as it was first performed earlier this year on 2012/01/25 at The Warfield in San Francisco. Back then it was given the unofficial fan title of "Mexico".

The second to our knowledge is a debut, and its title is "Heart Of Mine".

This brings the total new song count to five.

Thanks to Corey F and Bryan B for snagging a set list and clearing up all the new titles, Matt H for bring the video to our attention, and MrRosenthalification for taping.

Modest Mouse confirmed for Governors Ball Music Festival

The Governors Ball Music Festival announced their lineup this morning, and the hints they'd been dropping turned out to be true. Modest Mouse will be one of the acts performing on June 24, opening for Beck.

Other acts that day apart from Beck, include: Explosions In The Sky, Cults, and Built To Spill.

Because this festival has the band locked for the Sunday, this means that Modest Mouse will most likely be only performing on Saturday June 23 at the Orion Music + More festival in Atlantic City.

Tickets for this event go on sale tomorrow, February 22, through the festival's website. Watch a video of the announcement below.

The Governors Ball Music Festival?

The Governors Ball Music Festival is taking place on June 23 and 24 at Randall's Island in New York, NY. This is the same weekend that Modest Mouse is confirmed to be performing at Metallica's Orion Music + More festival in nearby Atlantic City.

The Governors Ball will be announcing its full lineup on February 21. Until then, they have started dropping hints on their Facebook page. Including one today of a cartoon mouse being modest, making it look very likely that Modest Mouse will be performing at that festival as well.

Tickets have yet to go on sale, and remember that if they do before the 21st, this is not confirmed. Keep an eye on The Governors Ball Music Festival's website for more info.

If this turns out to be true, it definitely looks like Modest Mouse will only be performing on one day at the Orion Music + More festival. So be careful when buying tickets there, if you weren't planning on going for the whole weekend.

Thanks go to Miike S for bringing this to our attention.

Orion Music + More

The inaugural Orion Music + More festival will be held on June 23 & 24 at Bader Field, a Municipal Airport just outside Atlantic City, NJ.

Metallica will be headlining both nights of the festival, during which they will be performing their Black album in its entirety on one of the nights.

They will also be curating the event, having selected 22+ of their favourite artists to join them, Modest Mouse being one of the confirmed acts so far. Other bands announced include the Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Fucked Up and Best Coast.

Little info otherwise is known as of now. We're not sure yet if Modest Mouse will be performing on both nights, and if not, then which night they will be performing on.

Presale tickets for Met Club fan club members go on sale Wednesday (February 8) at 10:00 am ET until Friday (February 10) at 10:00 pm ET. General admission tickets for the two-day festival will be priced at $125 and Ultra Passes will be priced at $225. Festival 72810

We're a little behind on this live date that was quietly added to Modest Mouse's website about a week ago.

The band will be heading to Mexico in March to perform at Festival 72810. A festival being held in the shadows of the Great Pyramid of Cholula in San Andrés Cholula on March 10.

They will be joined by acts like Public Enemy, Bauhaus's Peter Murphy, Blonde Redhead and more. Tickets are already on sale through the festival's website.

Modest Mouse has to cancel Brazilian show

Modest Mouse was meant to take the stage today at the SWU Music and Arts Festival in Brazil. Unfortunately the festival organizers have informed us, that due to a "logistical" problem, the band will be unable to do so.

Galera: lamentamos informar que, em nota oficial enviada por sua produção, a banda Modest Mouse anuncia o cancelamento do show por problemas de logística.

From what we've heard earlier, it is believed the band's equipment has been misplaced during their flight to Brazil. This would have marked Modest Mouse's first performance in that country.

UPDATE: Isaac talks about the show's cancellation in this video.

Modest Mouse to perform at Brazilian festival

Modest Mouse has added a single tour date in Paulívia, in the state of São Paulo. The band will be performing on November 13 at the SWU Music and Arts Festival. It will be the band's first show ever in Brazil.

Is this perhaps the first signs of an upcoming fall tour? Or possibly a South American tour? It does seem like quite a distance to be traveling for a single festival show.

This short news roundup is coming from Beijing, China. I brought my laptop with me on this trip, but left it in Guangzhou, and access to Wifi has been tricky.

Just to quickly recap what has been going on in my absence:

Modest Mouse kicks off their very short run of tour dates tomorrow before their headlining slot at Sasquatch. Something that will be on a lot of people's minds will be new material. If this happens, the Board is going to probably be the best place to stay up to date, as I won't be able to review anything until next week. Sheldon (Chief Tragedy) will be updating set lists, so please keep them coming in.

The band has also added more Australian dates in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne to accompany their performance at Splendor In The Grass. They will also be performing in New Zealand for the first time. Starting these dates off is also a single show in Troutdale, OR, maybe leaving space for a few more North American shows. Please refer to the Tour Date section for more info.

Lastly, Broken Social Scene has recorded a cover of The Word At Large for the Voice Project. The song had previously been covered live with Isaac back in 2008.

Modest Mouse heading back to Australia

Modest Mouse will be heading back to Australia this July for the Splendour in the Grass festival, taking place from July 29 - 31.

According to Modest Mouse's Facebook page, they will be performing on Saturday, July 30, but no word yet from the festival organizers if this is the day of the festival they will be performing on.

Side note: The ticketing page on Moshtix listing the lineup, has notes next to some bands stating whether the show is that band's only Australian show. There is nothing next to Modest Mouse's name, perhaps indicating that more Australian shows may be added.

Modest Mouse will be performing on both night of this year's Bridge School Benefit, organized by Neil and Pegi Young, held over October 23 & 24.
